Creative Sprint - Karlskrona 14-17.10.2024
The T.A.B Creative Sprint in Karlskrona was an intensive two-day event combining technology and art.
This time, creatives, artists, and innovators came together in Blue Science Park to join forces and create projects at the intersection of art and technology. The meeting brought together a diverse group of creative industry professionals, such as filmmakers, musicians, designers, and technology experts. It aimed to develop innovative solutions through collaboration and using the latest technologies, including AI tools.
During our stay in Karlskrona, we had the opportunity to participate in the 8th edition of Carl Film Forum and the inauguration of the Virtual Production Studio Lab (VPSL). This prestigious event brought together nearly 200 international film delegates from around 40 countries, including producers, researchers, local and national policymakers, and representatives of regional and national film and business institutes. The Carl Film Forum is a leading networking platform for the film industry, fostering dialogue between the audiovisual sector and decision-maker.
The goal of the Event
The sprint aimed to create innovative narrative and audiovisual experiences that integrate traditional storytelling methods with modern technology. Participants used a design thinking approach to address challenges at the intersection of art and technology.
Creative challenges
We worked in 4 groups, tackling creative challenges that can shape the future of our region, using VR, AI, AR and immersive media, among others:
- THE MUSIC GROUP: Making it BIG: The Roop
The design sprint was designed to explore and develop fresh musical ideas, sounds, and formats.
The group focused on creating a sound that is both innovative and accessible, appealing to a wide audience while remaining true to The Roop's artistic vision. The band was represented by fantastic vocalist Vaidotas Shmookis. The result is a muscular piece in keeping with the artists' style.

- “Cerebral Algorithm” Sci-Fi Film Concept Group
The group worked on a script for a film that combines the tension of a detective thriller with an in-depth exploration of neurotechnology and artificial intelligence, themes that are both timely and engaging. ‘Cerebral Algorithm’ will offer visually stunning environments, from high-tech labs to neon-lit cityscapes. This combination of cutting-edge visuals and practical effects will create a dynamic, immersive experience that enhances the film's futuristic setting.
The main challenge is to present a film that stands out with a compelling narrative and innovative visuals.
- TESS GROUP: work on series development
The group worked on the development of the series TESS THE INVENTOR, which tells the story of a 12-year-old autistic genius who invents a universe-breaking device. This project presents a unique design challenge in building characters and environments that only exist in the vast plain of our imagination.
The group worked on how to create authentic, realistic and believable interactions between human and CGI characters in a hybrid production.
- Citizen Dialogue Group: Public art installations with AR that transform urban spaces
The group's challenge was to design an exhibition that not only reflects Karlskrona's rich history and future, but also fosters long-term dialogue between citizens and the municipality.
A project has been created that will allow citizens to learn about the history of Karlskrona while sharing their thoughts about its future. They can be accessed via smartphones, connecting the past and the future in an immersive way.
Significance of the Event
The TAB Creative Sprint 2024 in Karlskrona was an opportunity for learning, collaboration, and experimenting with future technologies. This event showed that working in small, dynamic teams can be the key to breakthrough ideas.
Working in four teams demonstrated how effective the integration of creativity and technology can be in addressing contemporary challenges.
Each of the four groups focused on different aspects of storytelling, such as:
- Development of immersive visual technologies.
- Integration of music and sound in modern narratives.
- Application of artificial intelligence in film production.
- Creation of tools supporting new forms of creativity.
Every group has produced a tangible output (a pitch, a prototype, a storyboard, etc.). All project ideas have taken a meaningful step forward in product development or business idea development. A collaborative environment has been fostered, with participants motivated to work together in the future.
This event, as part of the T.A.B. project, received support from the Interreg South Baltic 2021–2027 program, fostering cross-sectoral development in the region.
