Feb 10, 2025

CALL FOR DIGITAL ARTISTS: T.A.B. Project (Tech Art and Business)

The T.A.B. Project is a European Union-funded initiative that fosters innovation by involving citizens in sustainability through art and technology. It invites digital artists to create "phygital" (physical and digital) artworks that combine augmented reality (AR) and community-driven narratives. The project includes workshops and residencies aimed at producing immersive experiences that highlight cultural heritage.

The project will take place from March to August 2025, with artistic installations positioned in Karlskrona, Sweden, at locations such as Stumholmen and Fisktorget, as well as a third site to be decided in collaboration with the selected artists. These installations will be accessible via a mobile app that allows users to interact with digital artwork through AR technology.

Program Details: Three digital artists will be selected to participate in an interdisciplinary residency, both remotely and in Karlskrona, Sweden. The residency will include city tours, museum visits, citizen interactions, and technical support. Artists will collaborate on the production of AR artworks for the exhibition.

Exhibition Themes: The exhibition will focus on four themes:

  1. Karlskrona's maritime and cultural history
  2. World Heritage (UNESCO recognition)
  3. Sustainable Future
  4. Environmental Challenges

Each selected artist will create one animated 3D artwork for AR display. The exhibition will be accessible through a mobile app provided by Umami Productions, allowing users to view content at specific GPS locations.

Requirements: This call is specifically aimed at digital artists with interdisciplinary skills in multimedia production, such as graphic design, animation, and 3D programming. Experience with interactive and AR-based art is preferred. Applicants should submit a portfolio, resume, and a brief motivation explaining their interest in the project.

Reimbursement: Each selected artist will receive 60,000 SEK, plus travel expenses (up to 10,000 SEK). They will also receive technical and practical training in AR.

How to Apply: Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2025. The jury will select the artists by March 7, 2025. HERE IS THE LINK.

Copyright: The artists will retain copyright of their works, but the project organizers (including the Municipality of Karlskrona and Umami Productions) will have the right to exhibit and distribute the works across various platforms, such as galleries and social media.

Personal Data Processing: Applicants consent to the processing of their personal data in accordance with GDPR for the purposes of the call.
